Joseph Bohler has been painting for more than 30 years, specializing in watercolor techniques. He has studied under notable artists such as Robert Lougheed and Richard Schmid. Bohler is a life member of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, a founding member of the Northwest Rendezvous, and a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the Watercolor USA Honor Society, and the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Society.
His work is featured in several books, including The Artistic Touch and The Artistic Touch II by Chris Unwins, as well as Splash II and Splash IV by Rachel Rubin Wolf. Additionally, he is included in The Best of Flower Painting, The Best of Portrait Painting, and Western Traditions: Contemporary Artists of the American West by Michael Duty.
Bohler has received art commissions from notable individuals, including the late John Ritter and his brother, Tom, who commissioned him to paint a portrait of Tex Ritter, the famed actor, country singer, and songwriter. This portrait included Ritter’s horse, White Flash, and was unveiled in March 1994 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum during the Western Heritage Awards. He won the inaugural Donald Teague Memorial Award for works of art on paper at the 2013 Prix de West, as well as the Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Award for the best cowboy subject matter at the 2015 Prix de West. In 2018, Bohler earned the prestigious Northwest Rendezvous President’s Award for his piece, Sandhill Cranes Rising, further establishing his reputation in the realm of original artwork and limited edition prints within the western art community.
